Why Urban Casavant is Important to the Shareholder

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
A very well known and respected poster (and I will add intelligent)..imo is off the mark in his assessment of Urban.
I think a lot of investors in CMKX do not realize the truly rare opportunity this stock represents..and the "rare" part can be broken down into two major pieces..
1. The potential of the claims
2. Urban Casavant
And I will explain in detail what I mean about #2..because it may be something that many here have not considered..because in a way it is counter intuitive-- especially if you have been investing in the stock market for any length of time..
Normally, I would shy away from any investment where emotions like "friendship" or "trust" are so easily attached-- I would normally agree that there is not much room for this type of thinking when making investment decisions..but I will lay out right here and now why we cannot afford to discount these feelings with this particular speculative investment..
I had part of this conversation with a couple shareholders in Vegas..so for those who shared a beer or coffee with me bear with me..lol
I grew up about a mile away from a K-Mart in Bellevue, Washington..as a kid I would walk to that K-Mart with my parents..it was a staple in our neighborhood..
about 30 years later K-Mart was going through a "restructuring" as many here might recall..and some here might have even bought some shares with the price seemingly attractive-- with the thinking that K-Mart would eventually come out of the financial mess and eventually reward the shareholder..
and we aren't talking about a stock trading in the subpennies..
Again..I grew up with that store..and it was hard to imagine the brand K-Mart ever dissappearing completely..but even so..I could not get myself to buy the stock..
and you know why? Some people here who know a little about the stock market could probably tell you why..
it is because the shareholder is the last in line to collect when a company is going through restructuring/bankruptcy..
The bond holders and the creditors are standing in line first..and the shareholders are often the ones who are left holding an empty bag.
And this is what happened with the K-Mart shareholders..K-Mart simply reissued new shares and the "old shares" were then useless (I hate to even use that word in this context..lol)..
Which brings me to my point..
Some here do not even realize how lucky we are to have Urban Casavant as our CEO..
No matter what you think about some of his decisions..
without him..and his commitment to the shareholders..we would be simply standing in the back of a line.
To be honest..a big reason I invested in CMKX was because of Roger..but the fact remains..that without Urban I would not be here either.
I was unwilling to put my money down on a company that I grew up with as a kid..but I am willing to put money down on a company because of a man that I have chosen to trust..
investing on "trust" is not how I grew my retirement portfolio..lol (therefore I understand the sentiment of those smart individuals who comment that they are here for the investment and not to be a "friend" with Urban )..however..this is not the typical investment by a longshot..
and this is where some very well meaning, smart individuals miss the mark imo..
I could give you my personal list of things that helped me come to my own conclusion that I could trust Urban Casavant..but I think each investor should weigh this for themselves..because it is that important.
People who have read some of my posts..perhaps could recall what my reasoning is..and I'm sure there is enough on these boards to get a sense of the man..but I have always felt that anyone who has the chance to meet him face to face should take the opportunity.
To summarize..IMO without the claims we would not have the opportunity (and who got those claims over many years?)..
without Roger we would not have the opportunity (and who hired Roger )..
and lastly..
without Urban Casavant and his generousity..without Urban Casavant and his commitment to the shareholders..
we would not have this opportunity. Period.
So next time you hear a complete slam on our CEO..even if there might be some truth to it..try and put it into perspective..and look at the big picture..
For the first time in my investment life..I see that there is a place for "friendship"..and I am not afraid to say this..even though it is the unpopular thing to say amongst seasoned investors..
In fact "friendship" and "trust" may be one of the most important factors when this is all said and done.
And in the investment world..
that is truly "rare". diamondogg
