Okay…..what can I say…other than ummmm good!
Wife and I went to the Salt Lick…
and had the standard combination plate for $8.95, which consisted of Beef, Sausage, Pork Rib, layered with Salt Lick’s secret BBQ sauce, served with a side of beans, potato salad, a negligible, but good cole slaw washed down real ice tea…
What I found out while there, if we can muster enough people to go, they will set aside an area for us and even cater the event.. However, there are some important caveats…..
(1). Cash only…no credit cards (they have an ATM on site though..lol)
(2). No separate checks-prices subject to change without notice.
(3). A 15% Gratuity added to parties of 8 or more ….with a minimum of $4.95 per person
I only meet with the week end personnel. But this Monday I'll call to their office and ascertain if there are any notable particulars regarding a “catered party.”
Driving up from San Antonio on I-35 was a real mess. Too much construction and traffic...I think it will be way easier (from San Antonio anyway) to take Highway 281 to the Hwy 290 cut off toward Austin. I'll check out that route next weekend..we plan to look at some lake front properties in Canyon Lake area..
Anyway here are some more useful directiosn...
From Downtown Austin
Follow South Lamar Blvd. to highway 290 West. At the "Y" in Oak Hill stay left, continuing on Highway 290 west toward Fredericksburg. At the third light, turn left onto FM 1826. Drive 13 miles to the Salt Lick.
South on Loop 1/MoPac
Take South Loop 1 Exit until it turns into SH 45. Continue to dead end at 1826. at the dead end make a left. Go approximately 7 1/2 miles and we are on the right side of the road.
Take I-35 South Exit right on Slaughter Lane.
Go West on Slaughter Lane until it dead ends into FM 1826. Make a left, and we are approximately 10 miles on the right side of the road.
From San Antonio/New Braunfels/San Marcos
Take I-35 North. After you pass through San Marcos, exit right on Hwy. 150 in Kyle, Texas. Turn left over the I-35 overpass into Kyle. Go through stoplight, at following stop sign, make a right onto FM 150.
After approximately 9 miles, the road will fork to the right. Follow 150 to the right toward Driftwood.
Pass Driftwood and FM 1826 will be on the right.
Turn right, and we are 1 1/2 miles on the left (past the bridge).
From Wimberley Take Ranch Road 12 North. Turn right on Elder Hill Road (170). Drive approximately 4 miles and turn left on FM 150. Drive approximately 1 mile until you reach FM 1826. Turn right onto FM 1826 and we are approximately 1 mile on the left (past the bridge).
If the above directions cause confusion use these….
Of course if you get lost, use your cell and call them...lol
While I was waiting to check in and out, the phone was constantly ringing from people placing orders and asking directions...

Office # at 512-894-3117
Monday thru Sunday, 11:00 a.m. to 10 p.m.
All we need now are people numbers and a day / time.
Personally I was thinking along the lines of arriving at the Salt Lick on a Saturday around 3-4:00 PM. That would allow those traveling from further away to safely make the trip.
