ProBoards Upgrade
« Thread started on: Today at 4:59pm » <br>
We've been discussing the pending upgrade to ProBoards v4 in another thread; I think there's some important information that deserves to be easily visible, so I'm going to start this new thread. We'll update this first post as new information comes in regarding the upgrade.
The upgrade process has been delayed from its original starting date of around a week ago. As I understand it, they're beginning to update some servers tonight. It looks like they're doing about 7 servers per night. Each batch of upgrades is supposed to begin around 11pm PST and take 12-24 hours according to the ProBoards support forum.
If they go in order, our server would get upgraded somewhere around the third or fourth night. So, with any luck, that means we wouldn't be upgraded until Thursday night at the earliest.
For the day prior to the upgrade, a banner will be clearly visible to everyone announcing the upgrade. So we do know for sure we're not being upgraded tonight (thank goodness.) I've PM-ed the Big Cheese at ProBoards and asked specifically that our board not be upgraded until the weekend if that is possible. But I guess Thursday or Friday night is better than tonight or tomorrow night, if that's what it comes down to.
What to expect the first time you log in after the upgrade.
I just experienced what happens when you come back to the upgraded system, because I went through the routine on the ProBoards support board. Here's what will happen:
As soon as you log in, you'll be asked for your birthday (not sure whether it asks again if you've already entered it previously, but it might.) After you enter your birthday, you'll be told to expect an email with a "verification code". You'll be shown your currently stored email address, and you will be given the opportunity to update it if it has changed since you've last entered it (probably when you registered.) When you've confirmed your email and pressed the button to proceed, your verification code will be emailed to that address.
This code is a 1-time use only code that you'll have to enter in order to complete the first-time log in procedure. After you do that, you may discard it (your password will still be the same as it was before.)
This same procedure will most likely have to be followed any time you change your email address.
So now we wait, and hope we don't see that banner for at least a few more days...
