;D FYI /FWIW...CHECK OUT THE "OTHER" DRILLING COMPANY UP NORTH...
Northern Star Mining Corporation: Deepest Intersection To Date And 44.7 Ft True Width Grading 0.306 Oz/Tonne
Thursday September 16, 10:20 am ET
VAL D'OR, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 16, 2004) - Northern Star Mining Corp., (NSM-V) is pleased to announce two additional drill results from its 100%-owned Midway Gold property, located 16 km west of the city of Val d'Or, Quebec, 1 km south of the Trans Canada highway.
The current drill program consists of approximately 50,000 feet of drilling focusing on the discovery of new gold zones, and the extension of the gold mineralization envelopes along strike, dip, and thickness in those zones already identified.
The Company has previously announced results from a total of 48 holes (drilling began in 2003). In total 58 holes have been drilled on the Midway Gold property as part of this program. All these remaining holes have been logged and assay results will be reported as results are received from the lab. Drilling activities are expected to recommence in mid-October following the interpretation of the results from the existing holes.
The Company has received assays for holes #NSM-04-49 and NSM-04-50, which are as follows:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Drill Hole True Thickness From To Gold Notes
(ft) (oz/tonne)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
NSM 04-49 Hole deviated Missed target depth returning no
significant results
---------------------------------------------------------------------
NSM 04-50 99.6 571.0 701.7 0.026 Porphyry
---------------------------------------------------------------------
including 31.0 571.0 611.4 0.071 "
---------------------------------------------------------------------
24.6 706.8 733.6 0.044 Upper Gabbro
---------------------------------------------------------------------
44.7 833.1 882.3 0.306 Goldfields
zone
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Including 21.1 833.1 856.4 0.632 "
---------------------------------------------------------------------
25.6 1616.0 1645.3 0.165 Lower Gabbro
---------------------------------------------------------------------
(x) All Midway core is BQ caliber. The drill core is split and one half retained for future references. The other half is sent to ALS Chemex Chimitec, in Val d'Or, Quebec. The gold assaying method uses a 30 gram sample with a fire assay finish. Pulps and rejects are recovered and returned for future check and verification purposes. The drill program is carried out and supervised by senior geologist, as well as Eugene Gauthier, geol., eng., a senior geologist and Mr. Charles Belanger, p. eng., both qualified persons consistent with NI 43-101.
Hole NSM-50 returned very significant results, including 0.306 oz/tonne over 44.7 feet true width, as well as the deepest intersection to date in the current drill program; a grade of 0.165 oz/tonne over a true width of 25.6 feet starting at 1,616 feet. This could represent a completely new zone, located below the Upper Goldfields and the Goldfields zones.
An upper zone was also intersected returning 0.044 oz/tonne over a true width of 24.6 feet that could represent the lower grade periphery to a new zone of mineralization.
In addition, a section from within a porphyry zone returned significant results that included 0.071 oz/tonne over a true width of 31.0 feet.
Hole 49 deviated and did not reach its intended target.
Further assay results will be released as soon as they are available.
Gold assays are consistent to date over all 50 holes, with the amount of gold observed as being directly proportional to the pyrite percentage in the drill holes assayed to date; continuing to prove an excellent tool in the exploration of the Midway Project.
Gold mineralization on the project is primarily hosted in roughly ovoid shaped gabbroic and mafic lenses within ultramafic rocks of the Cadillac Break. Gold mineralization occurs within the gabbro bodies and presents the appearance of discrete, elongated lenses. The gabbro and mafic bodies appear stacked en echelon at depth, and along strike and plunge. Gold values are consistent and are associated with pyrite content. Other mineralization encountered consists of chalcopyrite, galena, arsenopyrite and rare visible gold.
Lower grade mineralization is present in porphyry intrusives, which may be controlling structures of the gold mineralization. It appears that all the mineralization is associated with the introduction of nearby porphyry-type intrusive bodies. As well, the new gold zones identified recently in holes 45, 47 and today's release of 50, would increase the number of known zones, when these zones are extended along strike.
Furthermore, the Company has also identified the presence of a previously unknown porphyry intrusive on the project. This new porphyry and surrounding area will be targeted in future drilling.
New gold zone brings total known gold zones to ten
To date, drilling in the present program, which began in late 2003, has resulted in the discovery new gold mineralized zones that, with the four previously known zones, bring the total known individual gold zones at the project to at least ten. The different gold zones remain generally open along strike and at depth. For example, the Upper Halet zone has been traced along strike for at least 700 feet and remains open at both ends.
Shaft No.1 Development Studies
The Company has begun engineering studies and work concerning dewatering of shaft # 1, located on the property. As part of this work, the Company has completed initial site clearing work around the old shaft that has included re-opening and securing the shaft opening at surface. Pictures of the Shaft opening can be viewed at the Company's website www.nsmgold.com.
