Lifeline Announces That Inion Receives FDA Clearance for Trinion Meniscus Screw
8/20/04
RENO, Nev., Aug 20, 2004 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
Lifeline Biotechnologies Inc. (PINK: LBTT) today announced that the Trinion Meniscus Screw for use in knee cartilage repair, manufactured by Inion, of Finland and distributed in the U.S. by Lifeline, has received FDA clearance. The clearance allows Inion's Trinion screws to be marketed and sold in the US, complementing the company's Hexalon biodegradable cruciate ligament repair screw. These products are marketed to the sports medicine and orthopedic markets.
Trinion screws are used for the fixation of longitudinal vertical meniscus lesions, where the knee cartilage has torn. The benefits of the Trinion screw include a dual thread screw for optimal fixation with a headless design to allow complete insertion into the meniscus to avoid chondral lesion development. To aid surgeons, the screws are colored to allow improved visibility in arthroscopic procedures and are cannulated for increased ease of insertion.
FDA 510(k) clearance is awarded to medical device manufacturers prior to commercial distribution in the US. Trinion was awarded a CE-mark, the European equivalent of 510(k) clearance in July 2003. Lifeline Biotechnologies currently markets Inion's Haxalon product for anterior crucial ligament repair in the US.
